SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State football team opened its third week of fall camp Monday with its third and final two-a-day practice at the Aztecs' on-campus facility. The morning was a full pads session, while the evening practice was half pads and was capped by conditioning drills.

SDSU will have a single morning workout Tuesday before its final intrasquad scrimmage of fall camp on Wednesday at 10:15 a.m.

Quoting Aztec Head Coach Tom Craft:

On the defensive line
"We're really competitive there right now. Kurt Kahui is really solid for us and then we have a number of guys competing for the other end and back-up positions. You have Antwan Applewhite and Nick Osborn, but the guy who has been the big surprise of the camp is Siaosi Fifita. He's just been a pleasant surprise at one of the ends. He's running with our No. 1's/No. 2's and if we had to open up tomorrow, it would probably be one of those three. We can always put Kurt inside too, and use the other ones, so we're feeling pretty good about that."

On who else has been a surprise in fall camp
"We pretty much knew about the linebackers, they have been really solid. Michael Hughes has punted the ball very well. He has handled the stress situation, is a lot better and a lot stronger, there's no doubt about that. Our tight ends are much improved with Eric Miclot coming off shoulder surgery. He did have a mild concussion (in camp) and we held him out, but he's had a good camp. (Offensive lineman) Brandyn Dombrowski has been very solid and continues to improve. Even though he was slotted as a starting guard, he has improved and he's a good solid guard.

"Brandon Bornes, he's not a surprise, but he has had a great camp, because he's playing H-back, fullback and tailback. He's playing them all and does them well. He's a blue-collar guy. He's a mental, physical tough guy and is accountable and responsible. We know what we're going to get from him every time out."

Upcoming Practice Schedule Tuesday, Aug. 23 - Practice at 8:45 a.m. (half pads)
Wednesday, Aug. 24 - Scrimmage at 10:15 a.m. (full pads)
