SAN DIEGO - The Aztec football team conducted its final split practices of 2005 fall camp Thursday at the school's on-campus training facility. SDSU will put on the full pads for the first time on Friday, as the team reunites for one practice beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Quoting Aztec Head Coach Tom Craft Following The Morning Session:
On the kicking game:
"Garrett (Palmer) has really improved from last year. He did a nice job kicking at this level his freshman season, but he has significantly improved so far. He's improved his leg strength this year and has worked really hard on his trajectory. He's put on 20 pounds, too. It's really noticeable as far as his leg strength."
"(Michael) Hughes is making great progress and we're looking for improvement from him this year. It was his first time playing last season and he was really under-the-gun. We aren't looking for big punts, we're looking for more consistency."
On playing in full pads tomorrow:
"We're all anxious (to get in pads). I think there is a timing and rhythm thing once you put the pads on. It's that volume of offense and defense. You start to lose your legs, especially when you have a double-day (of practices). We'll find out who has got a more physical toughness the next few days."
