SAN DIEGO - Three former San Diego State baseball players have been selected to play in their respective minor league all-star games this summer. That trio includes second baseman Edgar Gonzalez, outfielder Anthony Gwynn and pitcher Ryan Schroyer.

Gonzalez will represent the Southern Division at the Eastern League all-Star Game which will be held at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine, on July 13. The former Aztec shortstop is currently batting .287 with 21 doubles, seven home runs, 39 RBI and a .457 slugging percentage. Gonzalez, who played at SDSU for three seasons (1998-2000), is a member of the Harrisburg Senators, the AA team of the Washington Nationals.

Gwynn, an Aztec from 2001 through 2003, will be the starting designated hitter for the North Division during the Southern League All-Star Game. That contest is scheduled to be played on Wednesday, July 13, at Henry Aaron Stadium in Mobile, Ala. Gwynn enters the week hitting .270 with 11 doubles, 30 RBI and 25 stolen bases for the Huntsville Stars, the AA affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Schroyer, who spent the 2003 campaign at San Diego State where he was named to the all-Mountain West Conference squad, was chosen for the Southern Division squad of the South Atlantic League, whose all-star game was played on June 28 in Augusta, Ga. Schroyer currently plays for the Greenville Bombers, the class A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.

San Diego State currently has five players active on major league rosters: Jeff DaVanon (Los Angeles Angels), Aaron Harang (Cincinnati Reds), Travis Lee (Tampa Bay Devil Rays), Jason Phillips (Los Angeles Dodgers) and Royce Ring (New York Mets). There are also 23 former Aztecs playing minor league baseball at this time.
