SACRAMENTO, Calif. - San Diego State senior Heather Heron (Yakima, Wash.) earned All-America honors with her eighth-place finish in the finals of the 100-meter hurdles at the 2005 NCAA Track & Field Championships Friday in Sacramento, Calif.
Heron finished the race in 13.37 seconds, just .02 behind the seventh-place finisher, Southern California's Candice Davis (13.35).
Heron's All-American honor is the first of her career in her final race as an Aztec. She becomes the 20th All-American in SDSU history and the 13th coached by head coach Rahn Sheffield.
Heron came into the meet ranked 17th in the nation, but ran a career-best time of 13.25 in the semifinal round on Wednesday to advance to today's final.
Classmate Shayla Balentine (Los Osos, Calif.), the second-ranked pole vaulter in the nation, will try for her first All-American accolade Saturday when she competes in the pole vault final. The event is set for 6 p.m.
