SAN DIEGO - San Diego State senior Jake McLintock (Bonita Vista HS) became the third Aztec selected in the 2005 major league draft when he was chosen by the Kansas City Royals in the 26th round on Wednesday, June 8. He joined teammates James Guerrero (Florida, 6th rd.) and Alex Hinshaw (San Francisco, 15th rd.) as one of three Aztecs picked during the two-day process.
A four-year letterman, McLintock was a three-time all-Mountain West Conference selection during his SDSU career. He was also named a Freshman All-American during the 2002 season.
In 2005, he batted .355 with 10 doubles, six triples, a home run and 45 runs batted in. He led the conference in hitting with a .479 average and struck out only five times in 123 plate appearances in league play.
McLintock was San Diego State's starting right fielder the past four seasons and concluded his time at SDSU as the Aztec career leader in games played, at bats, hits, total bases, RBI, hit by pitch and sacrifice flies.
Although he was an outfielder at SDSU, the Royals listed McLintock as a pitcher when they selected him on Wednesday. He made two appearances on the mound this season, both one-inning stints against USC and UNLV in May.
