SAN DIEGO - San Diego State sophomore right-hander Brett Douglas has been named the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week for the first time in his collegiate career.
Douglas, from Westminster, Calif., led SDSU to a 12-1 win over BYU, pitching eight scoreless innings, allowing just seven hits and two walks while striking out five. The victory allowed San Diego State to clinch third place and the No. 3 seed in this week's MWC Tournament.
Over his eight innings of work, Douglas held the Cougars, one of the top hitting and scoring offenses in the nation, to a .233 batting average and no runs.
SDSU begins play in the 2005 Mountain West Conference tournament when it faces Air Force on Wednesday (May 25) at 11:00 a.m. (MDT) at Franklin Covey Field in Salt Lake City.
