SAN DIEGO - With four players among the top 30 individually, San Diego State is in seventh place at the NCAA Men's Golf West Regional after 36 holes at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif.
With one round remaining on Saturday, the Aztecs are in position to qualify for the NCAA National Championship, June 1-4 at the Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, Md. The top 10 teams from the 27-team west regional will advance to the championship.
On Friday, San Diego State shot 290 and is now 16-over-par through two rounds. UNLV leads the field at 2-under-par followed by Brigham Young four shots off the lead. The Aztecs lead a group of seven teams that are within four shots of seventh place.
Aztec senior Gilberto Rodriguez followed up a first round 69, with a 74 for a two-round total of 3-over-par 143. Junior Josh Warthen continued his solid play with a 2-over-par 72 and is now 3-pver-par for the championships. Junior Andrew Scott produced the lowest round by an SDSU player, firing a 1-over-par 71. He is at 4-over-par for the championships. Senior Aaron Choi produced his second consecutive 73 and is 6-over-par after Friday's round.
