SAN DIEGO - No. 11 San Diego State fell to ninth-ranked San Jose State, 12-6, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game Saturday afternoon at the Kroc Community Center. The Aztecs' second consecutive loss drops them to 10-12 on the season and 2-8 in conference play, while the Spartans improve to 10-12 and 2-5 in the MPSF.

San Jose State got on the scoreboard first thanks to a Laura Scott goal 29 seconds into the game. Eleven seconds later, the Spartans were called for a penalty and SDSU's Rachel Serna converted the shot from four meters out to tie the game at 1-1.

Scott broke the tie with her second goal of the game at the 6:02 mark, but Stacy Werner knotted the game at two apiece when she scored off of a pass from Susan Stivers. SJSU closed out the opening quarter with goals from Katie Morgan and Mary Beth Cox to give the visiting team a 4-2 lead.

The second quarter was an offensive struggle as both teams recorded a goal apiece. Morgan tallied a goal for the Spartans at the 5:58 mark, while Serna notched her second of the game with 49 seconds remaining in the first half.

For the third consecutive period, San Jose State scored first as Morgan found the back of the net twice before SDSU recorded a goal. The Spartan junior scored with 4:27 left in the quarter and again at the 1:49 mark when Aztec goalkeeper Sarah Kilgore was ejected. With just over a minute in the stanza, Scott was called for a penalty and Serna connected again from four meters to post the hat trick.

In the final quarter, SDSU came out on the offensive as Stivers scored twice within a span of 44 seconds to cut the SJSU lead to 7-6. But that would be the last time the Aztecs would be heard from as the Spartans closed out the game scoring five consecutive goals to seal the victory.

SDSU will be action tomorrow as it hosts No. 3 Stanford and Pomona-Pitzer at the Kroc Community Center. The contest versus the Cardinal will get underway at noon, while the game against the Sagehens is slated for a 4 p.m. start.
