SAN DIEGO - The 41st-ranked San Diego State men's tennis team won its eighth consecutive match by shutting out unranked Hawaii, 7-0, Friday afternoon at SDSU Tennis Stadium. The win keeps the Aztecs undefeated at their new facility and improves their record to 12-5 on the season. The Rainbow Warriors, meanwhile, fall to 6-11 overall.
SDSU won the doubles point for the third straight match thanks to wins at the top two positions. Benedikt Stronk and Armando Carrascosa cruised to an 8-1 victory over Dali Ptak and Derrick Lajola at No. 1. On court two, Daniel Jung and Dontia Haynes posted an 8-6 win to secure the point for the Aztecs.
Ahead 1-0 in the match, SDSU carried its momentum into singles play by winning at all six positions.
Haynes, the Mountain West Conference player of the week, was the first one off the court after he downed Jarrod Diepraam, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 4, for his fifth consecutive victory. Stronk followed Haynes' lead with his, 6-2, 6-3, performance to win at the top slot.
Jung clinched the match for the Aztecs when he used a, 6-2, 6-2, effort to take down Chad Faulk at No. 5. His win extends his winning streak to six.
With the outcome already settled, Markus Dickhardt (6-4, 6-2) notched at win at No. 2, Carrascosa (6-4, 6-2) was victorious at No. 3 and Eugenio Romero put the final touches on the SDSU shutout with his three-set triumph at No. 6.
The Aztecs will be in action April 14 when they play at Denver. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. MST start.
