ALBUQUERQUE - San Diego State softball continued its cold streak, dropping a pair of Sunday afternoon games to New Mexico, 2-1 and 4-1. The Aztecs, losers of their last five, drop to 22-16 (0-4 in the MWC), while the Lobos improve to 13-18 (3-1 in the MWC).

In game one, SDSU and UNM went to extra innings before Kristina Schmallen hit a walk-off home run to right field off tough-luck loser Cori Janelli (9-8). Janelli pitched 13.1 innings on the weekend, allowing only two earned runs and four overall, but the Aztecs were only able to scratch out one run in the two combined starts.

SDSU opened the scoring in the third on a pair of singles from Lacey Craft and Bree Boyer, and a RBI fielder's choice by Erin Mahoney. The Lobos knotted up the game in the fifth on a single, an error and an RBI single by Lindsey Elcess

The Aztecs picked up just four hits in the game off of starter Katie Gregg (6-2), and left six runners stranded. Craft was 1-for-3 with a run scored to lead SDSU. Janelli pitched 7.1 innings, allowing seven hits and one earned run, with two strikeouts.

In the second game, the Lobos were able to get to a struggling Celena Velasquez (10-7), touching her for six hits and three runs in four innings, to lead them to the sweep of the Aztecs.

UNM jumped to the lead quickly in the first, as the Lobos led off with a single, a fielder's choice that allowed the runner to scoot to third and a sacrifice squeeze to score the run.

SDSU knotted up the score in the top of the second, using singles from Megan McDonald, Kristen Carranza and Chrissie Markham to stay with UNM, but the Lobos quickly struck back in the third on a lead-off home run from Elcess and a RBI single by Christina Rios.

The Aztecs were led at the plate by McDonald, who was 2-for-2 and Carranza who went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Katie Cochran pitched the final 2.0 innings for SDSU, allowing a run on one hit with no walks.

The Aztecs return home next week for a pair of doubleheaders, playing host to BYU on April 7 and Utah on April 9 at the SDSU Softball Stadium.
