SDSU Men's Golf Fires Second-Best Round of Tournament

SAN DIEGO - Aztec senior Gilberto Rodriguez fired rounds of 74 and 72 on Monday and is fourth place after 36 holes of the Bite/Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Tournament in Lompoc, Calif. Rodriguez helped lead SDSU to sixth place after 36 holes. The 20-team tournament concludes tomorrow with a single round.

The Aztecs suffered through a first-round score of 303, their second highest 18-hole total since October. SDSU was in 12th place after the first round. San Diego State rallied to shoot the best single-round total of the tournament, a 7-over-par 295 to end the day in sixth place.

San Diego State's top four golfers equaled or bettered in the second round than the first. Rodriguez is 2-over-par and four shots off the lead after Monday's round. Aaron Choi shot consecutive rounds of 75 and is tied for 25th place at 6-over-par 150. Other Aztec scores include Andrew Scott at 7-over-par 151, Chad Mosrovic at 9-over-par 153 and Linus Nilsson at 14-over-par 158.

Washington State's David Fern has the individual lead after 36 holes, and is at 2-under-par 142. UC Davis leads the team race with a four-shot advantage over Washington State.
