SAN DIEGO - The fourth-seeded San Diego State women's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the Mountain West Conference tournament with a 4-1 win over fifth-seeded Utah Thursday afternoon at the Barnes Tennis Center.
The Aztecs got off to a 1-0 start with a nailbiting victory in the doubles play. At No. 2 doubles, Alesya Vidov and Eliska Krausova clinched the win with a 9-8 win decided in a tiebreaker.
With the momentum of the air-tight doubles decision, San Diego State picked up three wins in four decisions in the singles play. Dita Hauerlandova was a straight-sets winner at No. 2 singles and the clinching point came from Krausova, who picked up a 7-6, 6-4 win over Utah's Whitney Eber at No. 3 singles.
The Aztecs' Nina Spaeth was the first off the court with a straight-sets victory at No. 5 singles.
The Aztecs will face top-seeded Brigham Young at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon at the Barnes Tennis Center.
SDSU's men's team, the regular-season MWC champions, will face UNLV at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
