SAN DIEGO - San Diego State recorded a pair of victories over Air Force Friday evening as it defeated the Falcons by scores of 21-0 and 8-1 in two seven-inning contests at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The opening game was the completion of a suspended game that was started in Colorado Springs on March 24.

The win allowed SDSU to improve to 13-24 on the season as it evened its Mountain West Conference record at 7-7. Air Force, meanwhile, lost for the 13th straight tie to fall to 5-30 on the season (0-14 MWC).

The first game began in the bottom of the second with the Aztecs (as visitors) holding a 2-0 lead. It didn't take them long to add to that score as they pushed across four in the top of the third and nine more in the fourth.

Lance Zawadzki led the SDSU offensive charge, going 4-for-4 with two doubles, a home run and four runs batted in. Fellow Aztecs Quintin Berry chipped win with three hits and three runs while Kasey Perry had two hits, including a double along with three RBI. Brock Ungricht also contributed a triple and drove in four runs in the contest.

Aztec starting pitcher Bruce Billings had another fine outing, allowing three hits over his five innings of work while recording nine strikeouts. He picked up the win to improve to 4-3 on the season. Sophomore Jared Suwyn tossed the final two innings to close out the contest. Air Force starter Mitch Brown took the loss to fall to 0-4.

After the offensive fireworks of the first game, the second contest was a tighter affair despite the final score line. The Aztecs scored their first three runs without the benefit of a base hit as Falcon starting pitcher Kyle DePierre (0-2) held the home side hitless until Sam Pepper's two-out single in the fourth.

The Aztecs struck in the opening frame on a walk to Quintin Berry, a passes ball, stolen base and a sacrifice fly by James Guerrero. They added two more in the second on a hit batter, a pair of base on balls, a fielder's choice and a bases-loaded walk.

San Diego State added three runs in the fourth after Pepper's two-out base hit, getting an RBI single from Joseph Scaperotta and a two-run triple by Guerrero. Air Force scored its lone run of the day in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by catcher Jon Polston to make the score 6-1.

The Aztecs rounded out the scoring with single runs in the fifth and sixth on a run-scoring single by Jordan Swaydan and a sacrifice fly by Scaperotta.

San Diego State center fielder Quintin Berry, who had three hits in the first game, came through with a single in his final at bat to extend his hitting streak to 25 games.

SDSU starter Alex Hinshaw tossed his third complete game of the season and won for the third time in his last three starts to move his record to 4-6. Along the way he gave up one run on three hits while striking out nine.

San Diego State and Air Force will continue their weekend series on Saturday (April 23) with a seven-inning game beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
