PROVO, Utah - In its final tune-up prior to next week's MWC championships, the SDSU men's golf team is in fourth place at 21-under 555 after two rounds Friday at the PING Cougar Classic in Provo, Utah. The Aztecs, who are ranked 51st nationally, trail first place Fresno State by 12 strokes, while they are just four behind third place Colorado State at the par-72, 6,950-yard Riverside Country Club.
SDSU shot a season-best 275 (-13) in the first 18 holes, beating its previous low of 278 set back in early October. The Aztecs followed their stellar first round with an 8-under 280 for a season-best 36-hole score of 555.
Senior Aaron Choi (San Diego, Calif.) is tied for fifth in the individual standings after posting an 8-under 136, including a first round 67. Teammate Andrew Scott (Henderson, Nev.) is just one stroke behind in ninth place with a 137, after opening the day with a 2-under 70, followed by a 67.
Senior Gilberto Rodriguez (Tijuana, Mexico) also logged a sub-70 round to start the day and is tied for 20th overall at 4-under 140. Junior Josh Warthen (Pismo Beach, Calif.), who is 33rd at 142, and senior Linus Nilsson (Linhamn, Sweden), who is tied for 58th at 146, round out the SDSU contingent.
The PING Cougar Classic concludes Saturday with the final 18 holes, beginning between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m.
