LAS VEGAS -

San Diego State softball dropped a pair of games at conference rival UNLV, falling 2-0 in game one and 4-0 in the game two, both shutouts tossed by pitcher Jacque Kerrigan. The Aztecs fall to 23-21, 1-9 in the Mountain West, while the Rebels improve to 32-15, 8-2 in the MWC.

In the first contest, SDSU and UNLV battled in a pitchers duel between Celena Velasquez and Kerrigan, with the only runs coming on a two-out, two-run homerun by Marissa Nichols in the bottom of third. Velasquez (11-8) pitched the complete-game two-hitter, but the Aztec bats were only able scratch out a double by Allison Smith in the top of the seventh to break up Kerrigan's no-hit bid.

Game two was similar to game one, with Kerrigan and Cori Janelli in another pitcher's duel, and again the Rebels used a home-run, this time a fourth-inning grand slam from Maggie Livreri, to notch the win. Janelli, like Velasquez, held UNLV to a pair of hits, but three Aztec errors gave the Rebels the edge they needed. Janelli (9-11) went five innings, striking out six, before giving way to Katie Cochran, who pitched the sixth.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

SDSU was led at the plate by Smith, who was 3-for-6 with a pair of doubles.

The Aztecs will travel to <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Utah for the final conference road doubleheaders of the season, taking on Brigham Young April 22 and Utah April 23.
