DENVER - The 37th-ranked San Diego State men's tennis team extended its winning streak to nine with its 5-2 victory over the Denver Pioneers Thursday afternoon at Stapleton Tennis Pavilion. The Aztecs' ninth straight win is their longest since the 2000 season when they won nine in a row to advance to the NCAA Tournament. The victory improves the Aztecs' record to 13-5 overall, while the Pioneers fall to 6-11.

San Diego State began the afternoon by winning the doubles point for a fourth consecutive match. Dontia Haynes and Daniel Jung were victorious, 8-6 at No. 2, while Markus Dickhardt and Eugenio Romero won their eighth match at No. 3 with their 8-6 victory over Jason Tan and Steve Flaks.

In singles, the Aztecs won three matches to clinch the match before Denver could get on the scoreboard.

Chris Groh pushed his winning streak to seven with his, 6-3, 6-0, win over Tan at No. 4 to give SDSU a 2-0 advantage.

At No. 6, Daniel Jung matched Groh's streak with his seventh straight win, posting a, 6-2, 6-2, triumph over Kalle Rosen to put the Aztecs up, 3-0.

With a chance to put the match away, Dontia Haynes duplicated his performance from two weeks ago to clinch the match for the Aztecs with his, 6-4, 6-4, win at No. 5.

After Benedikt Stronk fell at No. 1 to Adam Holstrom, Dickhardt posted a, 6-4, 7-5, win at No. 2 to give SDSU five total points.

The Aztecs will return to action when it faces Mountain West Conference foe New Mexico on Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colo. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. MST start.
