SAN DIEGO - Senior Indra Erichsen won both her singles and doubles matches on Senior Day in San Diego State's 5-2 victory over No. 57 Long Beach State Tuesday afternoon at SDSU Tennis Stadium. The win marks the Aztecs' third straight and improves their record to 13-8 on the season. The 49ers, meanwhile, fall to 11-10 overall.
SDSU started the afternoon off by winning the doubles point for a third consecutive match.
Alesya Vidov and Dita Hauerlandova were the first ones off the court when they disposed of Rachael Porsz and Alanah Carroll, 8-6, at No. 2. Following the win on court two, Aztec duo of Erichsen and Nina Spaeth were victorious by the same score of 8-6, at No. 1 to claim the point. Closing things out at No. 3 were Andrea Hermansen and Eliska Krausova who posted a 9-8 win over the 49er team of Stephanie Bengson-Krystina Katayama.
In singles, San Diego State only lost twice, while tallying victories at Nos. 2-5 to seal the match.
At No. 2, Hauerlandova claimed a, 6-3, 6-4, victory over Bengson to give her 12 wins on the season. On the next court, Krausova posted a different score, but produced the same result at No. 3 when she downed Sandra Rocha, 6-4, 6-2. At No. 5, Spaeth cruised to a 6-3, 6-1, victory over Long Beach State's Carroll, but the story of the day was Erichsen who was playing at No. 4.
With all the other matches completed, Erichsen and 49er sophomore Porsz were engaged in a battle. The SDSU senior lost in the first set, 3-6, but bounced back in the second with a 7-6 triumph. The third set went to a supertiebreaker, with Erichsen posting a 10-7 victory to win her final singles home match of her career.
The 45th-ranked Aztecs will be action this Friday when it plays at Mountain West Conference leader Brigham Young. The match is scheduled for a 10 a.m. MST start.
