FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The 40th-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team defeated unranked Colorado State, 4-3, in a Mountain West Conference match Sunday. Due to heavy snowfall in the area, the contest was moved indoors to Miramont Sport Center. With the win, the Aztecs improve to 12-8 and 3-2 in conference play.
SDSU began the day by sweeping doubles play for a second consecutive match. Indra Erichsen and Nina Spaeth won 8-4 over Emily Kirchem and Anne Anderson at the top position. Meanwhile, Alesya Vidov and Dita Hauerlandova were 8-6 winners at No. 2 and the team of Eliska Krausova-Andrea Hermansen posted an 8-3 victory at No. 3.
The Aztec lead quickly evaporated when the Rams' Kirchem recorded a, 6-3, 6-2, win over Hauerlandova at No. 2 and Anderson claimed a three-set victory at No. 3 over the freshman Krausova.
Vidov tied the match at 2-2 when she used a, 6-3, 6-7(3), 6-3, effort to defeat Dasha Zhurin at No. 1. Following her win, Erichsen was victorious at No. 4 and Sisse Nielsen posted a, 6-4, 6-2, win at No. 5 to clinch the match for the Aztecs.
At No. 6, Carla Bell lost to Alexandra Paganetti in three sets, 3-6, 7-5, 1-0(6), to give the match its final score.
San Diego State will be in action this Tuesday when it hosts No. 74 Long Beach State (11-9) at SDSU Tennis Stadium. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
