SAN DIEGO - The 25th-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team was defeated by No. 33 Florida State in a close match, 4-3, at SDSU Tennis Stadium. The loss snaps the Aztecs four-match winning streak and is the first suffered at their new facility. As a result, SDSU falls to 7-4 on the season, while the Seminoles climb to 4-4.
Florida State started off on the right foot by sweeping doubles play, all 8-6 victories, and winning at number one singles to take a 2-0 lead.
Junior Dita Hauerlandova got the Aztecs on the board with her, 6-3, 6-3, win over Roxanne Clarke at number two.
At the four position, freshman Eliska Krausova lost to Miranda Foley, 6-4, 6-4, but freshman teammate Nina Spaeth came back and won at number six over Amberly Tantee, 6-3, 6-3.
Following Spaeth's victory, Indra Erichsen evened the match at 3-3 by defeating Tapiwa Marobela by a score of 6-4, 7-6, at number five.
The deciding match came down to SDSU's Andrea Hermansen and FSU's Lindsay Deason at the number three spot.
Deason breezed through the first set, 6-0, but could not keep the momentum as Hermansen bounced back and took the second, 7-6. Unfortunately for Hermansen, Deason claimed the third set and the match for the Seminoles in a tiebreaker, 7-6(8-6).
San Diego State will be action Thurs., March 10, as it hosts 41st-ranked Rice at SDSU Tennis Stadium.
