SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's tennis team bounced back from yesterday's loss to defeat Yale, 5-2, at Fairbanks Ranch Country Club. With the victory, the Aztecs climb to 4-3 on the season while the Bulldogs fall to 2-5.
San Diego State started the afternoon by taking two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point.
Armando Carrascosa and Benedikt Stronk won their second consecutive doubles match at number one by defeating the Yale tandem of Brandon Wai and Ryan Murphy, 8-3. At number three, Dontia Haynes and Eugenio Romero recorded an 8-5 victory over Johnny Lu and Milosz Gudzowski to help the Aztecs go up 1-0 in the match.
San Diego State kept the pressure on Yale by winning four of the six singles matches to clinch the win for the Aztecs.
At number two Carrascosa defeated Ryan Murphy with ease, 6-1, 6-2. Following Carrascosa and coming off an impressive win against 37th-ranked Christoph Palmanshofer of Washington, Markus Dickhardt continued his stellar play and beat Gudzowski at number three in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
At numbers four and five, seniors Haynes and Daniel Jung posted straight set victories. Haynes downed Rowen Reynolds, 7-6(2), 6-0, while Jung recorded his third straight win in a 6-1, 6-2 sweep of Rory Green.
The Aztecs return to action at the Blue Gray Invitational in Montgomery, Ala., March 10-13.
