TEMPE, Ariz. -

It was yet another career-game for an Aztec hurler, as Cori Janelli tied the school-record with 15 strikeouts in a complete-game one-hit victory over <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Southern Utah, 4-0, in the final day of the Louisville Slugger Classic on the campus of host Arizona State University. San Diego State improves to 15-7 on the season, while Southern Utah falls to 1-10. The Aztecs finished with a 4-1 mark at the classic.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

Janelli (6-5) dominated throughout and had a no-hitter through six, but the Thunderbirds leadoff batter Kortny Hall doubled to break it up to lead off the second. Janelli came back strong however, and struck out the final three batters to end the scoring threat and the game. She struck out eight of the first ten batters she faced, and forced the final four outs of the game in the same fashion. Her 15 k's matches teammate Celena Velasquez's feat Feb. 25 against North Carolina, and bests her previous high of 13.

SDSU opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, as Meagan Hartung led off with a double, followed by a Chrissie Markham RBI single and a Kristen Carranza double, scoring Markham. In the fourth, Carranza forced a lead-off walk, then stole a base and advanced to third on a Danielle Touhey single. Following a sacrifice, advancing Touhey to second, Dani Sidoti struck out, but a passed ball allowed her to reach first safely and Carranza to reach the plate. Hartung finished off the scoring with an RBI single, sending Touhey home from third.

The Aztecs were led at the plate by Hartung, who went 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored, plus Markham and Carranza, who were 1-2 with an RBI and a run each.

SDSU next plays when it hosts city rival San Diego in a mid-week showdown, Wednesday at 7 p.m.
