SAN DIEGO - San Diego State men's tennis doubles team of senior Armando Carrascosa and junior Benedikt Stronk fell in the round of 16 at the 116th Pacific Coast Doubles Championships at La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club.
As the championship's ninth seed, the pair received a first round bye and was matched up with UCLA's Jeremy Drean and Chris Surapol in the round of 64 on Friday. But due to rain, the match was pushed back to Saturday morning with SDSU's pair winning by a score of, 6-2, 6-4.
In the round of 32, rain from the previous day caused all matches to be played in an eight-game pro-set format.
The rule change had no effect on Carrascosa-Stronk as they went on to defeat Andrew Wakefield and Satoshi Yoshino, the number seven seed, 9-7.
As a result of the victory, the Aztec doubles team set themselves up with a match against the number one seed and second-ranked doubles team in the nation from Stanford, K.C. Corkery and Sam Warburg.
The Stanford duo lived up to its seed and national ranking by defeating Carrascosa-Stronk, 8-1.
San Diego State will be action tomorrow, March 6, when they it takes on Washington at Fairbanks Ranch Country Club. Match time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
