SAN DIEGO - The 33rd-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team did not lose a set in sweeping No. 75 Ohio State, 7-0, Tuesday afternoon at SDSU Tennis Stadium. The shutout is the first for the Aztecs this season and improves their record to 9-5 on the year. Meanwhile, the Buckeyes fall to 5-10 overall with the loss.
SDSU began the afternoon by winning all three doubles matches. The combination of Nina Spaeth and Indra Erichsen defeated Ohio State's number one doubles team of Lindsey Adams-Sonia Ruizmovsky by a score of 8-5 in just their second match as partners.
At No. 2, the Aztec duo of Dita Hauerlandova-Alesya Vidov won their third consecutive match and improve to 7-2 at No. 2 doubles by beating Emily DeCamilla and Meredith Vincent by a final tally of 8-4. Andrea Hermansen and Eliska Krausova also notched an 8-4 victory over OSU's Silvia Prajescu and Caitlin O'Keefe at No. 3.
In singles, Nina Spaeth started things off with her ninth straight win, a 6-1, 6-2, victory over Prajescu at No. 6. For the season, she is 6-0 at the six position and 11-1 in dual matches this spring.
Following the win at six, Hauerlandova tallied a, 7-5, 6-0, win at No. 2 over DeCamilla and shortly thereafter, Erichsen posted a, 6-4, 6-2, victory against Vincent at No. 3. The Erichsen win clinched the victory for the Aztecs.
Closing things out were Vidov, who was a, 6-4, 6-1, winner at No. 1, and Krausova and Hermansen claiming victories at Nos. 5 and 4 to complete the sweep.
The Aztecs will return to action this Thursday when they face the Air Force Academy at 10 a.m. in Las Vegas, Nev., for the Mountain West Conference opener.
