SAN DIEGO - Four San Diego State golfers shot 73 or better in the final round Tuesday as the Aztec men's golf team tied for second place at the 14-team Oregon Duck Invitational in Eugene, Ore.
San Diego State finished with a three-round total of 2-over-par 864, four shots in back of tournament team champion Washington and in a tie with Nevada. The Aztecs finished one-shot better than second-ranked Georgia Tech, which finished fourth. The Yellow Jackets started the final round with a three-shot advantage over the Aztecs, but SDSU fired a final round 291 compared to Georgia Tech's 295.
Aztec senior Andrew Scott shot rounds of 71, 70 and 73 and ended the tournament in a tie for sixth place at 2-under-par 214. Aaron Choi ended up in ninth place at 1-under-par 215 and Linus Nilsson was even par and finished 11th. San Diego State was the only school to place three players in the top 11 places. Pepperdine's Michael Putnam claimed medalist honors, finishing at 8-uner-par (208).
In Tuesday's final round, Choi shot an even-par 72, while Scott, Nilsson and Gilberto Rodriguez all finished at 1-over-par 73. Rodriguez rallied from a first-round 77, to shoot consecutive rounds of 73 for the Aztecs. Chad Mosrovic all competed for San Diego State, ending the tournament at 235.
The Aztecs return to action April 4-5 at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate in Santa Barbara.
