SDSU Tries For Its Second Conesecutive Win As It Concludes Its Longest Homestand Of The Season, Then Hits The Road For MWC Action
* The 37th-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team closes out its longest homestand of the season Tuesday when it hosts Ohio State at SDSU Tennis Stadium. The Aztecs are coming off a win over No. 53 Tulsa that snapped their two-match slide and gave them a record of 4-2 on the homestand.
After the Ohio State match, SDSU travels to Sin City for the beginning of Mountain West Conference play. On Thursday, the Aztecs will face the Air Force Academy, followed by No. 32 UNLV and 47th-ranked New Mexico on Friday and Saturday, respectively. All three matches are slated for a 10 a.m. start.
Once conference play opens up, SDSU will not be in action until April 6 when it hosts Pepperdine.
SDSU Looks To Rebound From Loss When It Travels To Hawaii For The Aloha Rainbow Classic
* Coming off of Sunday's loss at Long Beach State, San Diego State (9-10, 2-6 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) will look to get back into the win column when it takes on Cal Baptist (11-4) and Canada at the Aloha Rainbow Classic in Hawaii.
The Aztecs will take on the Lancers at 2:30 HT on March 26 and follow it up with two exhibitions against Team Canada on March 27. The pair of games against Canada are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. HT starts.
After the weekend's three contests, SDSU will remain in Hawaii for an MPSF game on March 30 against Hawaii. That game is slated for a 4:30 p.m. HT start.
Aztecs Head East For Florida Relays
* After a successful home opener, the San Diego State track and field squad heads east to the University of Florida for the 62nd Annual Coca-Cola Florida Relays, March 24-26, at the Percy Beard Track and Field Complex in Gainesville, Fla.
* The Florida Relays boasts some of the top prep and collegiate talent from around the nation. Last year, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Indiana and South Carolina made the trip south to join Miami, Florida State and the host Gators in the competive field. Florida, South Carolina, Georgia and Miami each finished in the top-10 at the 2004 NCAA outdoor meet.
* The meet actually begins Wed., March 24, with the heptathlon and decathlon. Thursday's action is slated for a 9:30 a.m. EST start, while the last two days of the meet both kick-off at 9 a.m.
SDSU Heads North To Oregon Duck Invitational
*The San Diego State women's golf team travels to the Pacific Northwest this week for the 2005 Oregon Duck Invitational in Junction City, Ore., March 21-22. The 48-hole tournament will be held at the par-72, 6,103-yard Shadow Hills Country Club about 17 miles northwest of Eugene, Ore.
The Aztecs will be facing their toughest competition in the spring thus far with four teams ranked in the Golfweek/Sagarin Top 30. Highlighting the field are No. 4 Washington, No. 20 Stanford, No. 23 Washington State and No. 29 California. Mountain West Conference foe Wyoming will also be among the 16-team field.
The first 36 holes will be played on Monday, with the final 18 holes on Tuesday. An 8:00 a.m. (PST) shotgun start is scheduled for both days.
