SAN DIEGO -
<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>San Diego State, just a day removed from a season-high 14 hits and 10 runs, couldn't get the clutch hits Sunday afternoon, falling to Oregon 2-0 in the final game of the SDSU Classic at the SDSU Softball Stadium. The Aztecs fall to 22-12 on the year, while the Ducks improve to 16-9.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
Celena Velasquez (10-5) took the loss for SDSU, tossing five innings, allowing six hits and one earned run while notching four strikeouts. Bree Boyer was 2-for-3 for the Aztecs to lead a five-hit afternoon for SDSU batters and Cori Janelli pitched two scoreless innings of relief.
Oregon picked up a run in the first on a single, fielder's choice and an Aztec error. The Ducks scored another in the fourth off of back-to-back, two-out doubles. SDSU's best chance to dent the board came in the sixth, as the Aztecs loaded the bases with two outs on Boyer and Erin Mahoney singles and a Megan McDonald walk, but Kristen Carranza popped up to the second baseman to end the threat.
SDSU finished the weekend with a 4-1 record, led by Cori Janelli's 2-0 record with a save and 16 strikouts in 12.2 innings, plus Carranza, who batted at a .462 clip, with a double, a triple, five RBI and four runs scored with a stolen base.
The Aztecs take 12 days off before opening Mountain West Conference play April 1, at Colorado State.
