SAN DIEGO - Cal State Fullerton scored seven runs in the first inning and held off a San Diego State comeback in the middle innings en route to an 18-8 Tuesday night at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The loss improved the fourth-ranked Titans to 8-2 on the season while it was SDSU's seventh consecutive loss as it fell to 2-12.

The Titans touched up Aztec starter Brett Douglas (0-2) for those seven runs first-inning on five hits, a walk and an error. Among those hits was a three-run homer by first baseman Brett Pill and a two-run triple by center fielder Bobby Andrews.

After SDSU answered with a single run in the bottom of the first on Quentin Berry's RBI single, Fullerton added three runs in the top of the third to take a 10-1 lead and knock Douglas out of the game.

The Aztecs mounted a comeback in the bottom of the same inning, scoring five times on six hits including doubles by Lance Zawadzki, Tim O'Brian and Garrick Evans. They added two more in the fifth to close the gap to 10-8.

However, that was as close as SDSU would come as the visitors rallied for eight runs in the top of the sixth, sending 13 men to the plate in the process. The Titans had five hits and four hit batters in the inning with the big blow being a bases-loaded three-run triple by designated hitter Felipe Garcia.

All nine SDSU starters had at least one hit as the team's total of 16 was a season-high. Tim O'Brien led the Aztecs with three hits while five others garnered two hits apiece.

Up next for San Diego State is a trip to Mobile, Ala., where they will meet South Alabama in a three-game series beginning Friday, Mar. 4, at 6:30 p.m. (CST).
