SAN DIEGO - San Diego State softball fell behind early to an inspired St. John's ball club and were unable to catch back up, dropping the game 7-2. The Aztecs fall to 11-6 on the season and have now lost three straight for the first time all-season, while the Red Storm improves to 5-5 on the season.

St. John's, which features five San Diego natives and 11 from California, scored four in the top of the third on a walk, HBP, single and a three-run homer. Three of the runs were charged to starter Katie Cochran (1-1), while the homerun was charged to reliever Cori Janelli. Kim Lerch (3-3) got the win for the Red Storm, allowing only four hits and one run in four innings of work.

SDSU was led at the plate by Bree Boyer, who went 2-3 on the afternoon, and Celena Velasquez pitched a perfect two innings of relief with four strikeouts.

The Aztecs are next in action March 4-6 at the Louisville Slugger Classic in Tempe, Ariz., hosted by Arizona State, where SDSU will take on the Sun Devils and Southern Utah.
