SAN DIEGO - McDonald's, The San Diego International Sports Council, the San Diego Hall of Champions and San Diego State University have announced that the city of San Diego will host the 29th annual Boys and fifth annual Girls' McDonald's All-American High School Basketball Game.
The game, which features the prestigious McDonald's High School All-American teams, will take place in late March at San Diego State's Cox Arena. Proceeds from the event will benefit Ronald McDonald Charities of San Diego. Nearly $4 million has been raised since the game's inception in 1978.
The 2005 McDonald's All-American game will be held March 30th at Notre Dame. In 2006, the game returns to California for the first time since the 1984 event was played at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion. Legendary UCLA coach John Wooden serves as chairman of the McDonald's All-American game.
The state of California has produced more McDonald's All-Americans, boys and girls, than any other state.
Also in March of 2006, San Diego State will host the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament. San Diego State last hosted that event in 2001.
