SAN DIEGO - Texas completed a weekend sweep of San Diego State with a 7-0 victory Sunday afternoon at Tony Gwynn Stadium. Three Longhorn pitchers shut out the Aztecs on seven hits while their offense took advantage of some SDSU miscues and some timely hitting to record the win.

The win sees Texas leave town with a perfect 3-0 mark while San Diego State has begun the season with an 0-3 ledger. It was the first time that the Aztecs were swept in a weekend home series since losing three times to Texas Tech at the beginning of the 1996 campaign.

The Longhorns broke on top with an unearned run in the second when Clayton Crouch scored on an Aztec throwing error while attempting to turn as double play. They added a pair of runs to their total in the sixth on a two-run homer by Crouch off SDSU freshman Andres Esquibel.

Esquibel (0-1), a freshman from nearby Vista High School, gave a good account of himself in his first collegiate outing, going six innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits while striking out five.

Texas starter Buck Cody (1-0), meanwhile, picked up the win as he scattered five hits over his 5.1 innings of work. Relievers Clayton Stewart and J. Brent Cox combined to allow just two hits with five strikeouts over the final 3.2 innings.

Freshman leadoff hitter Grant Desme accounted for almost half of SDSU's hits on the afternoon, going 3-for-3 with a walk. He was the lone Aztec to reach third base as scoring chances were few and far between for the home team.

Up next for San Diego State is a short trip north on Tuesday (Feb. 8) when they will face the USC Trojans in Los Angeles at 6:00 p.m.
