Box Score

San Diego - Texas scored six times in the fourth inning and added three more in the fifth to break a 1-1 deadlock as it went on to a 13-5 win over San Diego State Saturday afternoon at Tony Gwynn Stadium. It was the Longhorns' second win in the season-opening series for both schools as they improved to 2-0. SDSU, meanwhile, dropped it second straight to fall to 0-2.

The visitors' six-run fourth inning came on six hits and pair of Aztec errors off San Diego State starting pitcher Brett Douglas. The big blow in the inning was a two-run bases-loaded single by second baseman Robby Hudson. UT also got RBI singles from Will Crouch, Dooley Prince and Drew Stubbs to take a 7-1 lead.

SDSU actually took an early lead, scoring a single run in the bottom of the second on consecutive singles by Jake McLintock, Tim O'Brien and Jordan Swaydan. The lead was short-lived however, as the Longhorns knotted the score with a run in the top of the third on a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly by Stubbs.

After taking a 7-1 lead in the fourth, Texas quickly put up three more in the next inning. A leadoff home run by Taylor Teegarden was followed by a walk to first baseman Chance Wheeless that ended Douglas' afternoon on the mound. Reliever Ben Coon's first pitch was then greeted by Will Crouch's homer deep to left center.

The Aztecs rallied for four runs from the fifth through seventh inning with the highlights coming in the form of a home run by first baseman Tim O'Brien and a two-RBI single by Brock Ungricht. However, the deficit was too large to overcome as UT added three more runs to their total over the final three frames.

Tim O'Brien finished the afternoon with a pair of hits for San Diego State while teammate James Guerrero contributed a pair of singles, a walk and run scored in four plate appearances.

Texas starter Randy Boone (1-0), who struck out eight over the first five innings, picked up the win while SDSU's Brett Douglas (0-1) suffered the loss.

The Longhorns and Aztecs conclude their three-game series on Sunday, (Feb. 6) at 1:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
