IRVINE, Calif. - San Diego State's 69th-ranked women's tennis team defeated No. 67 UC Irvine, 4-3, at Anteater Tennis Stadium. The win improves the Aztecs' record to 4-3 on the season, while the loss evens UC Irvine's record at 4-4.
In doubles action, Indra Erichsen and Andrea Hermansen defeated UC Irvine's top duo of Anna Bentzer and Inna Agababian, 8-6, at number one. The Anteaters bounced back and recorded victories at number two and three to win the doubles point.
Despite being down 1-0 going into singles play, SDSU buckled down and won four of the six matches to claim the 4-3 victory.
Alesya Vidov defeated Becky Bernhard in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, at number two. The Aztecs then followed that up with a win at number four by Hermansen (4-6, 7-6, 6-2), and two victories at numbers five and six. Eliska Krausova downed Jessica Broadfoot, 7-5, 6-3; while Nina Spaeth beat Lisa Shih, 6-0, 3-0 ret.
The Aztecs will be back in action on March 1 as they host Loyola Marymount at 2 p.m.
