COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Tori Respass-Parsons (Hayward, Calif.) took 13th in her first-ever attempt at the heptathlon at the 2005 Mountain West Conference Indoor Championship Meet on Thursday at the Air Force Academy's Cadet House in Colorado Springs, Colo. Respass-Parsons, a senior, recorded 3,002 points, 64 points ahead of Ingvild Carstens of Wyoming. Brigham Young's Amy Menlove won the meet with 4,172 points.
"We were were very pleased with her effort," SDSU assistant coach Jennifer Nanista said. "It was her first time competing in a multi-event and we think this will lead to a successful outdoor season."
Respass-Parsons finished third in the shot put (39 feet, 1.25 inches), 13th in the 800 (two minutes, 40.24 seconds), 16th in the 60-meter hurdles (9.76), 16th in the high jump (15-4.25) and 18th in the high jump (4-8.25).
Sophomore Janine Polischuk (Regina, Saskatchewan), the defending MWC outdoor pentathlon champion, did not finish the indoor heptathlon due to a knee injury. Prior to the injury, Polischuk completed two events, taking ninth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.24) and 11th in the high jump (5-1).
The Aztecs will return to action on Friday, where the finals of the weight throw, long jump, high jump, pole vault, 5,000-meter run and distance medley relay will be contested. Friday's action will start at noon MST.
