SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii - The San Diego State men's golf team remains in title contention after two rounds of play in the John Burns Invitational, being hosted by the University of Hawaii.

On Thursday, San Diego State shot a 280, eight under par, for the second straight day. San Diego State is tied for fifth place with Texas Tech, 11 shots behind tourney leader New Mexico. The fourth-ranked Lobos are at 549 for the tournament, 27 shots below par. San Diego State is just seven shots out of second and four shots out of third place.

The tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Friday with the Aztecs scheduled for an 11 a.m. (Pacific) tee time.

Aaron Choi became the third Aztec to shoot a round in the 60s when he fired a 67 on Thursday. After two rounds, Choi is at 5-under 139, good enough for 14th in the individual race. Two Aztecs, Andrew Scott and Gilberto Rodriguez, were in the 60s on Wednesday. Scott's Thursday round of 70 has him tied with Choi for 14th overall.

The tournament is being played on the Leilehua Golf Course in Schofield Barracks. The Aztecs won the John Burns in 2002 and finished second in 2003.
