•The SDSU track and field squad will send 19 of its members to the 2005 Mountain West Conference Indoor Championships, slated for Feb. 24-26, in Colorado Springs, Colo. The meet, which features seven other teams, will take place at the Air Force Academy's Cadet Field House for the sixth straight year.

•This week's meet schedule begins with the pentathlon on Thursday, which will include two Aztecs in senior transfer Tori Respass-Parsons and sophomore Janine Polischuk. On Friday, the finals of the weight throw, long jump, high jump, pole vault, 5,000-meter run and distance medley relay will be contested, while the majority of the finals will take place on Saturday. Competition begins at 11 a.m. (MST) Thursday and 12:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

•SDSU tied its best showing ever at the MWC indoor meet a year ago, placing second behind five-time team champion BYU, with 129.50 total points, 10.50 more points than the previous year.

Prior to their consecutive runner-up finishes, the Aztecs took sixth with 58.50 points in 2002, eighth in 2001 (eight pts.) and third (89 pts.) at the inaugural meet in 2000.

•SDSU's senior Erin Asay returns to defend her 2004 individual title in the pole vault, while junior Larnie Boyd is the only returning member of the 2004 victorious 1,600-relay team.

•Other misc. notes - Heading into the conference championship meet, Asay and senior Shayla Balentine are tied for the 18th-best mark in the nation in the pole vault (13-1.50) according to trackshark.com ... The Aztecs also have five athletes ranked among the top-five in conference - Asay (first, 13-1.25), Balentine (second, 13-1.25) and freshman Monica Pacas (fourth, 12-7.5) in the pole vault, freshman Brittani Dudley in the 200 (third, 24.95) and Respass-Parsons in the 60 (fifth, 7.66) ... The distance medley relay team of sophomore Lisa Naucler, Dudley, junior Nicole Carmier and sophomore Lital Azulay set the school record in Boise on Feb. 11 (12:13.23) ... BYU is ranked 13th nationally in the Feb. 15 Trackwire poll ... The Cadet Field House features a 268-meter (6 laps/mile) polyurethane surface with eight lanes on the straightaway and six lanes on the oval ... Colorado Springs sits at an altitude of 6,007 feet, the second time the Aztecs have competed in a meet at 6,000-feet and above this season.
