San Diego State will celebrate the 19th Annual National Girls and Women In Sports Day with a number of special promotions in conjunction with the Aztec women's basketball and softball games, Feb. 19-20.
The festivities begin on Sat., Feb. 19, as the SDSU women's basketball team plays host to conference foe Colorado State, beginning at 5 p.m. at Cox Arena. Special advance group tickets are available for just one dollar per person for groups of five or more. General admission prices are $7 for adults and $5 for children under the age of 14. The first 600 fans in attendance will also receive a complimentary SDSU visor.
Following the game, a reception will include a question and answer period with selected Aztec student-athletes from a variety of sports, along with complimentary food, beverages and a raffle.
A day later, the SDSU women's softball team takes on reigning national champion UCLA at 1 p.m., as a part of the annual Campbell/Cartier tournament. The game will be at the new San Diego State Softball Stadium, which is slated to officially open for competition that weekend.
Fans can get in free to the Aztecs-Bruins game by showing their ticket stub from the SDSU-CSU women's basketball game. Group tickets will not be available in advance, but can be purchased at the gate for the same dollar rate per person (for groups of five or more). General admission is $7 for adults, while those under the age of 18 will be admitted for free.
Other special promotions at Sunday's softball game include dollar hotdogs and a special grand prize package raffle.
National Girls and Women In Sports Day celebrates female athletic achievement and recognizes the importance of sports and fitness participation for all girls and women. The day was named in honor of former Olympic volleyball player Flo Hyman, who died in 1986 of Marfan's Syndrome. The official National Girls and Women In Sports Day this year is Feb. 9.
