Aztecs Travel for the First Time this Season, Take on Texas Tech and 27th-Ranked Oregon in Eugene
* No. 65 San Diego State (2-1) travels to the Pacific Northwest for matches against Texas Tech (0-0) and 27th-ranked Oregon (5-0) on Saturday and Sunday in Eugene, Ore.
The Aztecs are coming off a rainout last Friday against (58) Long Beach State and a 5-2 loss at the hands of No. 17 California.
Texas Tech will be playing its first match of the 2005 season when it faces San Diego State. Meanwhile, Oregon comes into Sunday's match with the Aztecs riding a five-match winning streak.
Weekend Wrap Up
* The San Diego State women's tennis team fell to the 17th-ranked California Golden Bears, 5-2, at the West Tennis Courts on the campus of the University of San Diego. The match was played off campus due to the ongoing construction of the SDSU Tennis Stadium.
The Aztecs started off on the right foot by earning the doubles point. Alesya Vidov and Dita Hauerlandova won at number two doubles, 8-4, over California's Stephanie Kusano and Jessica Shu. At the third position, the duo of Nina Spaeth-Sisse Nielsen defeated Cristina Visico and Tiffany Lee by a score of 8-4.
In singles action, SDSU did not fair as well, winning only one match. Indra Erichsen won her match at number three over Kusano. The senior was victorious in straight sets, 7-6, 7-5.
Last Friday, the women's tennis match between San Diego State and No. 58 Long Beach State was postponed due to rain. The contest has been rescheduled for Feb. 10, at SDSU Tennis Stadium. The match is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
Scouting the Red Raiders
* Texas Tech begins the 2005 campaign with a young team. Its roster is comprised of three freshman and a pair of sophomores and juniors.
The Red Raiders are led by second-year head coach and former Nebraska All-American Cari Groce. Groce boasts 150-131 overall record with stops at Washington State and Tulsa.
