RENO, Nev. - The 2005 San Diego State indoor track and field season officially got under way as four Aztecs competed at the National Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nev., on Saturday. More than 1,000 athletes competed in 65 different divisions at the summit.
"The vaulters had a solid performance at the Pole Vault Summit," SDSU assistant coach Richard Fox said. "We hope our success today will translate into a successful indoor season and a strong performance at the (Mountain West) conference meet."
Senior Erin Asay (San Diego, Calif.) had the top vault of the day for the Aztecs, clearing 11 feet, 11.75 three inches in first collegiate division.
SDSU Newcomers Joanna Burley (Fullerton, Calif.) and Christin Shibley (Palmdale, Calif.) joined San Diego native Julie Hudlow with vaults of 10-8 in the third collegiate division.
The Aztec pole vaulters and the rest of the women's track and field team return to action at the Mountain T's Invitational in Flagstaff, Ariz., Saturday, Feb. 5.
