SAN DIEGO (AP) - Justin Williams scored a career-high 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and Wyoming made 10 of 11 free throws in overtime to defeat San Diego State 88-81 Saturday night.
The Cowboys (10-7, 2-2 Mountain West) scored just one basket in the overtime period on a drive by Jerry Webb, but their free throw shooting was more than enough to hold off San Diego State.
Williams went 7-for-8 from the floor and was 8-for-10 from the free throw line, making all four field goal attempts in overtime. Sherrell was also perfect on four free throws in overtime.
The Cowboys, who shot just 64.9 percent from the free throw line, finished making 23 of 31.
Webb scored at the 1:59 mark of overtime and made the free throw after being fouled on the play to put Wyoming ahead for good, 82-81.
San Diego State (8-8, 2-1), which scored only five points in overtime, scored its final points when Williams was called for goaltending on Brandon Heath's shot with 2:24 left.
Sherrell scored 14 points, and Jay Straight and Kevin Lewis added 12 each as Wyoming ended the Aztecs' three-game win streak.
Williams, who tied his career high in rebounds, also had six blocked shots.
Brandon Heath scored 29 points and Marcus Slaughter added 18 points and 10 rebounds for San Diego State, which was outrebounded 47-28.
Sherrell tied the game at 76, hitting 2 of 3 free throws with 45 seconds left in regulation, but each team missed one shot, including a long 3-pointer by Straight that nearly banked in as time expired to send the game into overtime.
