"Dennis has some familiarity with our program," Craft said. "He has an extensive background in working with the offensive line and he will be a great addition to our staff."
McKnight received a degree in education from Drake University, where he played offensive line for the Bulldogs. He joined the Chargers in 1982 and was a member of the squad through the 1989 season. During the course of his career in San Diego, McKnight was a two-time team captain and was also an alternate selection to the NFL's Pro Bowl.
He also spent two seasons as a player with the Detroit Lions and one year with the Philadelphia Eagles. As a coach, McKnight spent two seasons at San Diego's Saint Augustine High School, and two seasons on the staff of June Jones at the University of Hawai'i.
Since 2002, McKnight has served as special teams coordinator at Grossmont College.
