SAN DIEGO - Brent Brennan has joined the San Diego State football staff and will coach the Aztec quarterbacks, head coach Tom Craft has announced Wednesday.

"Brent is a young and energetic coach," Craft said. "He has the added experience of serving as a recruiting coordinator and has strong connections in northern California, where we want to have a major presence."

Along with the hiring of Brennan, Craft also announced that Brian Stark will become the Aztec running backs coach. Stark takes over for Walter Gaskins, who retired at the conclusion of the 2004 season.

Brennan spent the past four years on the staff at Cal Poly, where he coached the Mustang receivers. During his last year in San Luis Obispo, he added the title of recruiting coordinator to his duties.

"I'm very excited to be at San Diego State," Brennan said. "It is an opportunity to learn from a great coach in Tom Craft."

Brennan is a 1996 graduate of UCLA, where he earned two letters in football and was a member of the 1993 Pac 10 championship team. He is a native of Redwood City. He began his coaching career at Woodside High School, and served as a graduate assistant at Hawai'i, Washington and Arizona before joining the Cal Poly staff.

The Mustangs finished the 2004 season with a 9-2 record and were ranked 16th and 17th respectively in the two Division I-AA national polls.

Brennan is married to the former Courtney Clark. They have one daughter, Blake.
