SAN DIEGO - San Diego State freshman defender Freddy McDonald has been named an honorable mention freshman All-American by the Top Drawer Soccer website.

With the honor, McDonald becomes the first Aztec freshman to win postseason honors since 1988, when Jeff Betts was named to the Soccer America Top Ten freshman team.

The Phoenix, Ariz., native started all but one game for SDSU this season, scoring a goal on 15 shots. His main contribution was to the Aztec defense, where he was a strong, physical performer who controlled his side of the pitch.
