PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - Members of the San Diego State women's tennis team faced tough competition Friday in day one of the Fall Desert Classic at Palm Springs, losing in the three matches they competed in.
In singles for the Aztecs, eighth seeded Dita Hauerlandova was upset by Tracy Lin of UCLA in straight sets (6-0, 7-6[2]), while Sisse Nielson fell to the Bruins' Laura Gordon (6-4, 6-4). Hauerlandova will play again Saturday at 9:30 a.m. against Stephanie Balzert of Arizona, and Nielson will take on the winner of Jacqueline Haskett of Fresno State and Lise Sissler of Pepperdine at 12:30 p.m.
The doubles team of Hauerlandova and Alesya Vidov fell in the second round of the doubles draw to the team of Gordon-Lumpkin of UCLA 8-0.
