SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's basketball team closed its 2004-2005 exhibition season Thursday night with a 87-67 victory over Point Loma Nazarene in front of 3,488 fans at Cox Arena. SDSU's 20-point margin of victory was its fourth-largest in the Steve Fisher era and the most since it claimed a 96-72 victory over the LA Stars last season.

The Aztecs got 14 points from Marcus Slaughter in the game's first three minutes and jumped to a 19-5 lead in cruising to the victory. Slaughter poured in 21 points in the first half and the Aztecs ended the suspense early by shooting 52.8 percent from the floor in the game's first 20 minutes.

The victory was the San Diego State's ninth straight in exhibition play.

Slaughter finished the game with a double-double scoring 25 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Fellow forward Chris Walton went 6-for-7 from the field, including 3-for-3 from three-point distance en route to 15 points on the night.

Junior forward Trimaine Davis made his first start for the Aztecs and played a game-high 25 minutes and scored 10 points on 3-of-6 shooting.

Senior guard Travis Hanour saw his first game action since Mar 1, 2003, and played nine minutes, totaling two points and four rebounds.

Freshman guard Matt Thomas, in his second game in an Aztec uniform, scored 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting in 22 minutes off the bench.

The Aztecs will open the regular season Nov. 19th when they host the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos at 7:05 p.m.
