SAN DIEGO - San Diego State senior forward Lindsey Casey (Odessa, Texas) and sophomore guard Michelle Elliott (Pasco, Wash.) have been selected as team captains for the 2004-05 season, Aztec women's basketball head coach Jim Tomey announced Tuesday.

"Both were chosen for their leadership qualities," Tomey said. "They both lead in different ways. Michelle leads through example and is becoming more of a vocal presence. She does everything to the best of her ability, at a high rate of speed and with total concentration.

"Lindsey is our lone senior. She has been through the ranks, played at the highest levels and understands what it takes to be a responsible leader on a young team."

Casey is in her second season at SDSU, after spending one year each at the University of Oklahoma and Midland College. As a junior, she appeared in 28 games, earning one starting assignment in her first season on The Mesa. She was third on the team in blocked shots and fourth in rebounds per game (2.6).

Elliott is coming off an outstanding freshman campaign, earning all-Mountain West Conference honors after leading the team in scoring with 12.4 ppg. In 27 contests, she scored 10 points or more 21 times and finished with a team-high 51 assists and was second in three-pointers with 38.

Casey, Elliott and the rest of the Aztecs open their 2004-05 schedule with an exhibition contest, Wed., Nov. 10, at 7 p.m., at Cox Arena. SDSU faces Team Concept, a squad of former college players, including Aztec Hall of Fame member and honorable mention All-American Falisha Wright (1992-95).
