SAN DIEGO - The Aztec novice boats participated in the Third Annual Row for the Cure at Mission Bay on Sunday. Over $12,000 was raised by the event in which all of the proceeds were donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

San Diego State University rowing, competing in the collegiate novice eight race, placed first and third out of the 10-boat field in Sunday's regatta. The winning Aztec boat finished with a time of 16 minutes, six seconds followed closely by the University of San Diego (16:07). The third-place boat, also SDSU, finished next in 16:22. UC San Diego also competed in the race.

"This was the first race for the novice squad and I am pleased with the outcome," said head coach Jennifer Zebroski. "All of these student-athletes are walk-ons and they have come a long way in the last month and a half. I am excited to continue to watch their progress over the next year."

The Aztecs will next compete in the Newport Autumn Rowing Festival at the Newport Aquatic Center on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 8 a.m. The program will field eight boats and will compete in the Women's Open Eight, the Women's Frosh/Novice Eight, the Women's Lightweight Eight, and the Women's Open Four w/ Coxswain.
