Oct. 9, 2004

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State junior Andrew Scott shot a final round 68 to help lead the Aztec men's golf team to a second-place finish at the 15-team Lexus Golf Classic at Fort Washington Country Club in Fresno.

Scott made the turn at even par, but made four birdies in the final nine holes to end his round at four-under-par. The senior concluded the 54-hole tournament at 11-under-par, good for second place among the 95 competitors in the tournament. The second place finishes for both the team and an individual were the highest for San Diego State this season.

Brigham Young claimed both the team and individual titles. The Cougars shot rounds of 278-270-279 (827) to finish 37-under-par. The Aztecs, which were tied for the lead after the first round and the second best final round score, shot 278-289-280 (847) to finish 17-under-par. Rounding out the top five teams were UC Riverside, Fresno State and Saint Mary's.

BYU's Greg Machtaler was the individual winner, finishing with a three-round total of 202, 14-under-par. Scott finished three strokes off the pace at 11-under-par. SDSU senior Aaron Choi finished in eighth place, carding a 70 on Saturday to finish five-under-par. The Aztecs placed a third player among the top 20 with Chad Moscovic finishing at two-under-par in 18th place.
