SAN DIEGO - The Brigham Young women's cross country team placed seven runners in the top-10 en route to winning the Pre-Mountain West Conference Championship at Morley Field on Saturday morning. The Cougars finished with a perfect 15 points, out distancing the host Aztecs (49) by 34 points in the two-team meet.
Junior Christa Cuadra was the first runner across the finish line for SDSU, taking seventh with a 6K time of 24 minutes, eight seconds. BYU's Julie Cameron won the meet with a time of 23:11.
Freshman Brookie Detterman (ninth place, 25:18), and sophomores Celeste Tyson (10th, 25:21) and Christian Fairing (11th, 25:47) each broke 26:00 for the Aztecs.
Sophomores Ali Baker (26:22) and Sara Cates (26:22) placed 12th and 13th respectively for SDSU, followed by junior Jackie Duncan (14th, 26:36), senior Emily Joller (15th, 27:08) and junior Jamillah Titus (16th, 27:34).
The Aztecs will travel to compete in the UNLV Invitational at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, before playing host to the 2004 MWC Championship meet at 9 a.m. on Oct. 16.
