SDSU Men's Golf Among the Leaders at Lexus Classic

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State junior Andrew Scott fired the best opening round with a six-under-par 66 and followed it up with a one-under-par 71 to help lead the Aztecs to fourth place after the first day of the Fresno State Lexus Golf Classic at Fort Washington Country Club in Fresno.

The Aztecs, which were tied for first place after the first round, are in fourth place at nine-under-par in the 15-team tournament after 36 holes. Brigham Young is in first place at 28-under-par, 12 shots ahead of UC Riverside, 16 strokes in front of Fresno State and 19 shots clear of SDSU.

Scott's opening round 66 was the second best round of the 190 rounds of golf played on Friday. He is just four strokes behind the tournament leader, Brigham Young's Greg Machtaler and just two strokes out of second place.

San Diego State senior Aaron Choi, the top Aztec finisher in each of the first two fall tournaments, is in 14th-place at three-under-par, following rounds of 69 and 72.

The tournament concludes with a single round of play on Saturday.
