SAN DIEGO - On a day when just four of 18 teams performed better than their two previous rounds, the San Diego State women's golf team finished 13th Tuesday with a 949 (+85), including a third-round 322, at the Price's "Give `Em Five" Intercollegiate in Las Cruces, N.M. The Aztecs trailed 12th-place University of Denver by just two strokes, while No. 3 Arizona State came from behind to win the tournament with a first-place effort of 893 (+29) at the par-72, 6,319-yard New Mexico State University Golf Course.

Aztec senior Megan Mulhaupt (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) jumped 15 places in the individual standings with the team's best round of the day (77), ending up in a tie for 33rd place with a 233 (+17), one stroke off her career best for 54 holes. Fellow senior Veronica Ojeda (San Diego, Calif.) came in just behind Mulhaupt with a three-round score of 234 (+18), including an 80 on Tuesday, to finish in a tie for 40th individually.

Competing in her first collegiate tournament, freshman MacKenzie Swecker (Winnemucca, Nev.) was SDSU's third-best golfer with a 242 (+26), while senior Toni Lutz (Anaheim, Calif.) trailed Swecker by one stroke to place 67th overall. Freshman Anna Booth (Coffs Harbour, Australia) rounded out the Aztec group of five with a three-round total of 247 (+31).

Texas Tech's Kim Kolb held onto her individual lead by shooting a 72 to finish as the tournament's only golfer under par with a two-under 214. Arizona State's Louise Stahle and New Mexico State's Erin Kato tied for second at 218 (+2).

San Diego State takes almost two weeks off before playing host to the Lady Aztec Invitational, Oct. 18-19, at The Auld Course in Chula Vista, Calif.
